Mark K. Slater, Partner

Mark Slater's practice includes all facets of business disputes, litigation and trials, both jury and bench. He has extensive experience in arbitration and mediation. He has won groundbreaking decisions in insurance coverage for technology losses and indemnity for intellectual property actions, and has particular expertise in matters involving beverage distribution, valuation of privately held companies, enterprise software development and licensing, bankruptcy and creditors' rights issues, finance disputes, mergers and acquisitions litigation, and real property.

Mark also spent four years serving as Senior Vice President, Assistant General Counsel for Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM), the world's largest technology and IT distributor, where he managed all North American Legal Services. While at Ingram Micro, Mark's wide-ranging responsibilities included managing a team of lawyers and legal professionals, negotiating national and international contracts, resolving distribution and outsource contract disputes, supervising multidistrict litigation and outside counsel, and handling all aspects of internal and government investigations.

Jonathan P. Hersey, Partner

Jon Hersey has more than 18 years of civil litigation and trial experience. He specializes in complex commercial, class action, and intellectual property disputes, particularly those involving claims of breach of contract, unfair competition, merger and acquisition earn-outs, protection of creditors’ rights, misappropriation of trade secrets, fraud, lender liability, and other business torts. He has extensive experience representing computer industry, manufacturing and distribution businesses, and financial institutions in federal and state courts, and in private arbitrations and mediations.

Prior to founding Slater Hersey & Lieberman LLP, Jon was a partner in the Business Trial practice group of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, and was co-chair of the firm’s E-Discovery Team. Before that, Jon was Counsel with the firm of Bingham McCutchen LLP. After law school, he served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable David V. Kenyon, U.S. District Court Judge (ret.) in the Central District of California.

Scott B. Lieberman, Partner

Scott Lieberman advises clients on a wide range of complex business issues, such as merger and acquisition disputes, purchase price and working capital adjustment arbitrations, partnership, corporate control and shareholder derivative matters, intellectual property and technology disputes, and commercial real estate and banking matters relating to real property secured lending transactions, personal property and asset based lending transactions, problem loan workouts and bankruptcy proceedings. Scott also handles various types of employment litigation, including unfair competition and wage and hour class action lawsuits.

Scott’s clients include publicly traded corporations, some of the nation’s largest private equity companies, financial institutions and private lenders, and smaller, privately-held companies. Scott is actively involved in all aspects of litigation in both federal and state court, yet he also understands the need to advise and present to his clients the best business solutions for them. Michael A. Wallin, Of Counsel

Michael Wallin represents businesses with debtor/creditor issues. On the creditor side, Mike represents lenders and other creditors, collects money owed to his clients, sues borrowers who fail to repay debts, obtains possession of collateral, forecloses on real estate, and aggressively enforces judgments using both conventional and complex collection tools. Mike also represents creditors in bankruptcy matters of all types.

On the debtor side, Mike represents businesses in financial distress. He negotiates resolutions with lenders and other creditors, defends against collection and commercial foreclosure actions, and uses the bankruptcy process to protect clients’ assets and restructure their debts. Mike has substantial experience in all areas of bankruptcy law and regularly represents companies in chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, in which he reduces or eliminates his clients’ financial obligations.

Mike has years of experience in several types of commercial lending transactions, including loans secured by real and/or personal property. He represents both lenders and borrowers in the negotiation of loan transactions. Mike has represented various lender clients, including national banks, local and regional banks and other financial institutions.

Mike is also a business litigator. He represents businesses in resolving disputes, both in and out of court. He also serves as outside general counsel to several small businesses, in which he provides general representation and advice to businesses without an in-house attorney.

Sandra P. Thompson, Of Counsel

Dr. Sandra Thompson has spent the last 17 years counseling domestic and international clients—from Fortune 50 companies to startups to universities—on patent, trademark, copyright, licensing and new media transactional and litigation matters. Sandra drafts, files, prosecutes and licenses patent applications and trademark applications. She also reviews and enforces clients’ new media rights, including drafting, reviewing and updating privacy policies and terms of use, takedown procedures, and social media-related issues. Sandra has a successful patent appeal and reexamination practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Sheyanne H. Bane, Of Counsel

Sheyanne focuses her practice in the areas of business and commercial litigation, as well as catastrophic personal injury and specialty torts. Junyong Huang, Associate

Junyong Huang focuses her practice on a wide range of commercial litigation matters. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Law. During law school, Junyong externed for the Honorable Ronald H. Sargis, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, in the Eastern District of California, as well as for the Honorable Christopher R. Bowen of the California Superior Court, County of Contra Costa, and for the Honorable Jill Fanin of the California Superior Court, County of Contra Costa. As a member of the UC Davis Moot Court Honors Board, Junyong competed on the UC Davis Jessup Moot Court team, which won the regional fourth best brief award. She also finished in the top-15 oral advocates at the regional rounds. Junyong additionally served as a Conference Co-chair of the school’s Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA), where she planned and organized the 2014 Annual Bay Area APALSA Conference at King Hall. Junyong is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese Chinese.
